Understanding Product License Types

When you purchase a product on Blender Market, you are effectively purchasing a license to that product and the promise of product support, rather than the product itself. For that reason and others, it is important that you understand what the license that you are purchasing allows you to do with the product, and what it does not allow you to do.

Why do products have different license types?

When a Creator uploads their product to Blender Market, they must select the license type under which they want to make their product available. The type of license determines what can and cannot be done with the product. Once they have decided on a license type, all Blender Market patrons who purchase that product will purchase it under the same license type. The license type that you purchase a product under is the Creator's decision, not yours.

Can one product come with multiple licenses?

Yes. A product that is made up of code, image files, and models might include multiple licenses to cover each part of the product. The code could be GPL, the images could be CC Attribution, and the models could be Royalty Free. Always review the product downloads when you purchase a product to ensure that relevant license documents are included—and that you are abiding by the terms of those licenses.
