Product Versioning

With our Product Versioning feature, sellers are able to create and manage versioned releases of their product. Products which require updates, such as the software sold in our Addons category, will benefit from using this feature.

To use Product Versioning, navigate to your Products list in your Creator Dashboard.

For each product you will see an orange View button which will take you to an informational page about the given product. At the top of that page there is a Product Versions tab. Go there to create and manage versions of your product.

Creating Versions

When it is time to release a new version of your product, visit the Product Versions tab on your product listing within the Creator Dashboard and click on the +Create New Version button.

A form will appear with the following fields:

• Variant. Select which product variant this release is for. This field is not applicable for products with no variants and is required for products which do have variants.
• Version Name. This text string can be whatever you want to call your versions. Most commonly it would contain the numbers for your release, such as 1.0 or 3.5.8, etc.
• Release Date. This date field represents the date on which this version was released to the public. It is used to determine the order in which versions appear for customers. It can be used to backdate historical versions and to schedule the release of new versions for the future.
• Changelog / Notes. A written summary of the changes included in this new release.
• Version Files. Files to add in the new version.

Once you've populated the variant, name, date, and notes, you'll click "Add Version Files." A modal with an uploader for product files will appear. You will either have to upload files, or you can select files from the list if you've already done so. 

To create a folder to organize your files into, there is an +Add Folder link above the file uploader. The files you upload can be dragged and dropped into these folders via clicking "Sort Files," and then saving.

+Add Folder can also be toggled to go back to the uploader. 

Managing existing versions

After versions of your product have been created, they will appear in a list on the Product Versions view (/creator/products/{PRODUCT NAME}/versions):

Previously created versions can be modified by clicking the Edit button next to the product on that page.

Note: Once a product has variations, a variant must be selected when creating or editing a version. New customers will be unable to access versions which are not attached to a variation once variations exist.

Customer view

When customers complete a purchase of a product with active versions, their order page will feature a dropdown selector populated with all the attached versions, sorted by recency according to the Release Date.

Selecting a version in that dropdown will reveal all the files associated with the version.
